Grocery Shopping

If you are doing your own shopping, there is a new Publix (Coral Shores Center) at the corner of Burnt Store Road/Veterans Parkway and Pine Island Road.  If you plan on faxing your order to Publix, the recommendation is to use the Publix at Santa Barbara Center.  They are located at 100 Hancock Bridge Parkway West in Cape Coral.  They are at the intersection of Santa Barbara and Pine Island Road.  The fax number for the Publix is 239-458-7822.  The fax must include your order, the apporximate time of pickup, your credit card information and that you will need a boat order to North Captiva Island.  They would like your order to be in categories such as dry goods, produce, canned goods, milk and milk products, meats, etc. They need at least 24 hours to complete your faxed order.  I usually call the store the morning of my pickup day to remind them of the order and my time of arrival at the store.  Their phone number is 239-458-8900.  They know what to do to keep your veggies and fruits fresh and your refrigerated items cold.  They will be very helpful to meet your needs and are quite accommodating.

You may also do your grocery shopping at Winn Dixie on Pine Island which is about 10 minutes from Island Charters. At the four way stop on Pine Island, turn left on Stringfellow Road for approximately ½ mile to the shopping center on the left where Winn Dixie is located. At checkout, please tell them that you are going on the water taxi to North Captiva and they will pack your bags for the boat trip across the sound. Some items to keep in mind to purchase: bread, cereal, luncheon meats, prepared salads, salad dressings, milk, water, fruit juices, other breakfast items, and your dinner needs. We have a large electric grill (George Forman) on the screened porch off the great room and also a Weber grill off the deck by the pool and a second George Forman on the pool deck area.

Groceries Delivered to Manatee Haven

Connie Smith of Mainland Connection offers grocery shopping services for you and will not only deliver them to Manatee Haven but will also place needed items in the refrigerator, place dry goods in the cabinet and arrange the fruit in a bowl for you.  She will need your faxed order at least one week in advance along with your arrival date and time and the name of our home, Manatee Haven, 517 Coral Circle, and our phone number, 239-472-1188.  She accepts both Mastercard and Visa.

Water Taxi Service to North Captiva Island

The most exciting part of your trip to North Captiva begins on your boat ride from Pineland Marina across Pine Island Sound. The water taxi is run very efficiently by Island Girl Charters and there will be plenty of room for your party and your groceries and luggage will be safely stored. As you cross Pine Island Sound you will possibly see dolphins which love to follow the boat, nesting osprey, diving pelicans, cormorants and frigate birds. You will also pass by other neighboring islands including Cabbage Key, made famous by Jimmy Buffet, and Useppa Island, which has an excellent educational museum on the early Calusa Indian settlements on the islands. Reservations for your water taxi must be made in advance through our managers.

Private water taxi is also available at Pineland Marina with Captain Charlie Creagh. You can reach Captain Charlie at 239-472-1234.

You will disembark at North Captiva Island at Barnacle Phil's stop where you will be met by our on-island managers, Jeff or Jane Henderson. They will collect your luggage and groceries and will take you to our home, Manatee Haven.

Getting Around the Island - Golf Carts

A 4/5 seater golf cart is included with your rental of Manatee Haven. The cart has been painted by a local artist and it is easily recognized throughout the island with the gentle giants, the manatees, in attandance.  It is important not to overload the cart for it can cause extensive damage, especially when driving on sandy lanes. You must be over 16 to drive the cart. Please advise us if you will need to rent a second cart and we do advise a second cart if you are in a party of 8.
